Traveling trailer group to visit Appanoose County

This Friday a group of Airstream trailers from the North Iowa and Nebraska Units will rendezvous at the Ivan and Jo Curtis farm for a fun-filled rally around Appanoose County. The rally theme is Western Round-up, and 18 silver trailers will be parked around the “Curtis Corral.”

All in attendance are members of Wally Byam Caravan Club International, an organization which promotes fun, fellowship and adventure while traveling the open roads. The organization is comprised of 133 units throughout the United States and Canada. Rallies are generally held monthly from May through October.

Some of the places that will be visited in Appanoose County include the downtown shops at the Centerville Square, the Shoppes at Bradley Hall, the Continental Hotel, the Exline Country Store, Rathbun Lake and the Rathbun Fish Hatchery. Thanks to the assistance of the Centerville Chamber of Commerce, an interesting auto tour is schedule for visiting historic sites around the county including stops at Moravia and Plano.

The western rally will conclude on Monday with an evening performance by the Mudcats Country Band. On Tuesday, the silver trailers will be seen caravanning south to a Region Rally in Columbia, Missouri.

Anyone interested in further information regarding the organization and its activities is welcome to stop by at the “Curtis Corral” near Mystic for a visit.

This week the Iowegian wants readers to think about the recent decision by the Centerville Municipal Waterworks Board of Directors to increase the fee for late payment of water bills. In a story published in Wednesday's Ad Express, board members announced a 10 percent late fee after two days late, a $50 red tag fee for accounts unpaid after seven days late and a $25 shut off fee, water service terminated after two weeks late. The board said the decision to increase the fees associated with late payment is to encourage customers to pay their bills on time. So, the question this week is, "Are these fees too much to ask for?"

A. Yes, they are.
B. No, they are not.
C. I'm not affected so I don't care.
