On Monday, June 15 at approximately 2:04 p.m., officers from the Centerville Police Department and the South Central Iowa Drug Task Force conducted a traffic stop in the 26000 block of Highway 5. As a result of the traffic stop two individuals from Unionville, Mo. were arrested and charged with multiple narcotics violations.
According to a Centerville Police Department press release, during the traffic stop officers located numerous items conducive to the manufacture of methamphetamine in the suspect’s vehicle.
David Wayne Irving, 43, and Renee Lansey Cheramie, 21, were both arrested and charged with conspiracy to manufacture a schedule II controlled substance, methamphetamine, a class “C” felony, possession of psuedophedrine, with the intent to manufacture a controlled substance, a class “D” felony, possession of lithium batteries, with the intent to manufacture a controlled substance, a class “D” felony and possession of anhydrous ammonia, with the intent to manufacture a controlled substance, a class “D” felony. Cheramie also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest from Mercer County, Mo.
Irving and Cheramie were transported to the Appanoose County Jail where they are currently being held with a cash only bond set at $65,000.
The Drug Task Force would like to inform the public that they have begun to see a rise in methamphetamine laboratories in recent months. Those persons involved in this criminal activity have found new ways to circumvent the psuedophedrine laws and is a cause for the increase in the methamphetamine labs. The public needs to be aware of this due to the potential of dumpsites containing hazardous materials being located by unsuspecting citizens.
