The Centerville Community School Board held a public hearing concerning the sale of property followed by a regular board meeting Tuesday, June 9. Four board members were present, President Kris Hoffman, Vice President Steve Hoch, board member Bill Matkovich and board member Deb Watley. Absent were board members Nick Hindley, Jeri Pershy and Brad Appler. Superintendent Rich Turner and board secretery Linda Henderson were also present.
The public hearing dealt with the sale of a 50' x 100' piece of property that was purchased for the Howar Junior High Gym addition. An offer to purchase the property had been presented to the board earlier by Gary and Connie Golick at 937 Mikels Drive, whose property adjoined the proposed sale property. There were no objections from visitors and the board unanimously approved the sale of the property for the price of $2,000 plus any district transactional costs. The board then adjourned to the regular meeting.
In new business the board renewed the Employee Assistance Program at a cost of $20 per employee for the 2009-2010 school year and also renewed membership with the Iowa Association of School Boards for the next school year.
The board received two bids for a new 54 passenger special education bus with a lift. School Bus Sales Co. offered a Blue Bird Vision Lift Bus with two wheelchair positions for $76,678, with options for one more wheelchair position for an additional $1,128 and front air ride for an additional $910. Hoglund Bus Co. Inc. offered an International Lift Bus for $75,588.
Director of Transportation Donna Riddick and bus mechanic Dan Thompson recommended purchasing the 2010 Blue Bird Vision Lift Bus from School Bus Sales Co. with the addition of the front air ride for a total cost of $77,588 because the Hoglund Bus Co. bid could not offer the front air ride. The board unanimously approved accepting the bid of School Bus Sales Co. at a cost of $77,588.
The board then reviewed specifications for the Centerville High School basement renovation project. The project has been in the PPEL plan and is projected to cost approximately $250,000. The locker room and shower areas of the school would be renovated and the size of the weight room area would increase. The board approved the specifications and also set a public hearing to consider bids at 12 p.m. on Friday, June 19 at the Administration Building.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 14 at 6:30 p.m.
