Soap Creek Lodge offers an alternative environment
CENTERVILLE —
Soap Creek Lodge, located north of Unionville, Iowa, may still be completing some final touches of decorating, but the venue has already hosted several events and has been scheduling receptions, meetings and vacations for this summer and the next.
Constructed and owned by Brian and Barb Lindberg, who also own Soap Creek Outfitters, the lodge was originally envisioned as a large cabin for hunters to stay in. Soap Creek Outfitters owns several properties with cabins and the property where the lodge now stands also had an old cabin on it according to the Lindbergs.
Materials arrived via four semi trailers in 2008, but construction didn't begin until June of 2009. Most of the work was completed by the Lindbergs and hunters Brian knew through Soap Creek Outfitters.
"I said you give me a week of labor, I’ll give you a week of deer hunting," said Brian. “That was really how we did this.”
The lodge recently began accepting bookings for events, even though they still have a few projects to complete. Eventually there will be a gazebo located a short walk from the lodge. The parking lot and road leading to the lodge will also be expanded in the future and a machine shed will be built on the premises.
The lodge was constructed from low maintenance materials, such as concrete floors and includes geo-thermal heating and cooling systems. According to the Lindbergs, the property contains a pond for visitors to enjoy as well as the wooded areas. Inside the lodge there are two bathrooms with showers, a kitchen and reception room downstairs. Upstairs there are four bedrooms and a balcony area that looks out over the reception floor. There is also a large deck on the back side of the lodge.
The couple has a Web site under construction at www.soapcreeklodge. com., but they can currently be found on the Web through the lodge’s Facebook page. Just search for Soap Creek Lodge on Facebook.
People interested in making reservations may call (641) 895-3225 or (641) 452-6664.
The lodge has so far hosted a rotary club event and bridal shower and have had inquiries about church retreats. They hope the interest level continues to grow.
“When people find out about it I think it will take off,” said Brian.
They are currently scheduling events for up to two years in the future.
