CENTERVILLE —
The Centerville City Council during tonight's meeting at City Hall will deal with several personnel issues.
On the agenda is the resignation of councilman Randy Marcussen, effective Feb. 24, and a way to find his replacement.
The meeting agenda lists a resolution declaring the council's intent to fill Marcussen's vacancy by appointment. The other option, if a petition is filed by the electors, is to hold a special election to fill the vacancy.
The council's intent to appoint includes a notice announcing individuals interested in filling the vacated council seat have until the morning of March 29 to bring a letter of interest to City Hall. The council during their April 1 meeting will appoint someone to fill the vacancy who will serve until the election this November.
Marcussen's Feb. 24 email to city officials announcing his formal resignation states due to responsibilities to job and obligations to family "I no longer feel I can allocate the needed time to my Councilman position."
On the agenda is the resignation of Patricia Timmens from the Library Board and the resignation of Royal Simmons from the Historic Preservation Commission.
On the agenda is Mayor Jim Senior's appointment of Neal MacArthur to fill the Historic Preservation Commission vacancy.
Senior is on the agenda concerning the hiring of office personnel to fill a vacancy at City Hall, a request for additional compensation for his increased workload and his presentation of Citizen of the Month.
Part of the agenda is a hand written page submitted by Senior showing the extra hours he has worked.
In other action:
Nancy Huisman, with Hall Engineering, is on the agenda to deliver an update on the Safe Routes to School and street improvement projects.
Huisman sent a letter to the city announcing some federal Davis-Bacon compliance requirements have not been met with the sludge processing facility improvements project. If Davis-Bacon rules are not met it could jeopardize State Revolving Fund money for the project.
The letter states Davis-Bacon compliance "weekly payroll and interview forms have not been reviewed and certified," something the council decided in September of 2012 that they would be responsible for.
The cemetery and park mowing contract in on the agenda for review and possible award.
A pre-negotiation agreement resolution with Golfview Homeowners Association is on the agenda. The resolution is the first amendment to agreement and resubmittal of application to the City Development Board for annexation into the city of Centerville.
George Johnson, city building and code compliance officer, is on the agenda to update the council on the demolition of 218 East Jackson.
