OTTUMWA — Photos from Costa Rica to the mountains of Wyoming and many points in between will be featured in a one-artist show coming to the Indian Hills Community College Art Gallery. Dennis Ferns of Gibson will showcase his talents in the one-artist show from Jan. 16 through March 15.

The public is invited to the exhibit’s opening reception from 7-8:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 16. Refreshments will be served.

Ferns’ interest in photography goes back to his childhood. The Indian Hills graduate says composing a photograph is no different from composing an art work from any other artistic medium. His photographs are full of dynamic line and form, vibrant color and beautiful locations.

Viewers will see photos from the tropical beaches of Costa Rica to high alpine scenes in the Wind River Mountains of Wyoming. Ferns’ photographic eye will allow you to explore some of the most beautiful landscapes in North America.

The Indian Hills Art Gallery is located in the Ottumwa campus library at 525 Grandview Ave. The gallery is open from 8 a.m.-8:40 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays and from 4:30-9 p.m. on Sundays.

Walking Tour around Square Wednesday
Enfys McMurry and Historic Preservation Corporation are celebrating National Historic Month by having a walking tour around the Historic Square District in Centerville Wednesday, May 23 at 1:30 p.m. Meet at Tangleberries on the south side of the Square. The tour is one hour long and then meet back at Tangleberries for tea and scones. Cost is $7 per person including tea and a scone at Tangleberries upon completion of the tour. The tour is entitled: “Centerville – A Mid American Saga – a Tour of the Square (which also is the name of the book Enfys just finished) and it will be out for sale in the fall of 2012.
