CENTERVILLE —
Every year the Royal Neighbors of America designates the last Saturday in October as “Make a Difference Day.”
This year, on Saturday, Oct. 27, Royal Neighbor chapters all over the country were encouraged to create and deliver “Baskets of Hope” to a women’s organization that provides programs to assist women.
This year the Exline Chapter of Royal Neighbors chose to help the Women’s Shelter and Crisis Center located in Ottumwa. The Ottumwa shelter serves Appanoose County as well as Wapello, Monroe and Davis County. At the present time, the shelter is filled to capacity with women and children from these four counties.
The baskets and tote bags were filled with personal care items, household supplies, educational materials, toys, clothing and other items that will help women improve their lives. All Royal Neighbor Chapters were encouraged to donate a minimum of 10 baskets to help empower women to achieve financial security and healthy lifestyles.
The Exline Chapter is happy to report that with the help of our members and community support for our project we were able to create 60 baskets and tote bags to give to the Ottumwa Center.
Royal Neighbors of America is a life insurance organization with a difference. A nationwide chapter system was designed to make a positive difference in local communities through volunteer efforts.
This year the Exline Chapter was chosen as one of the top 50 chapters in the country for their volunteer activities for the community. Officers are Jean Leach, president; Mary Ann Hurley, event planner and Freda Sargent, secretary/treasurer.
