CINCINNATI —
Over 30 citizens packed themselves into the Cincinnati town hall, with several overflowing into the fire truck garage beside the meeting room, Monday night.
The hot topic of the night was discussing dust control on Depot Lane, which prompted an approximately 30 minute discussion from several individuals in the audience.
The dust control on Depot Lane was performed without city council approval by the city maintenance manager. The cost was $320. After the extended conversation amongst council members and those from the community, the council decided to vote to take no action on the issue, thus absorbing the cost of the project. The vote was three for yes, one for no and one abstained.
Margie Stewart was listed on the agenda as wanting to discuss ordinances and laws in the presence of her lawyer. However, when the time came for Stewart to have the floor, she was not present.
Dave Rummans was appointed the mayor of the city to begin the meeting. He was sworn in at 7:08 p.m. and presided over the remainder of the meeting. He will be up for reelection this November.
"I've run my own business as a general contractor for the last 13 years," Rummans said to the council and community members in attendance during the meeting. "I had employees, worked with subcontractors and various venders. I'm used to contracts and all that goes with that. I'm retired now so I have time to give to this [being mayor] and I just want to do what I can to see that we have a nice, clean, safe community to live and hopefully can draw people that will want to move here."
