Robin Tarbell-Thomas of Centerville took third in the grapefruit division, second in the peach division and third in the Other category with Cherry Parmalade in the C&H Canned Marmalade competition at the 2010 Iowa State Fair.
Tarbell-Thomas took first place overall and reserve sweepstakes honors in the Dahl's Canned Savory Sauces, Meats and Poultry contest with her tomato catsup. She also earned second place in Spaghetti Sauce Without Meat, first in Tomato Catsup, second in Tomato Sauce (seasoned), second in Beef and second in Chicken or Turkey categories.
Tarbell-Thomas topped the competition to win first place overall and reserve sweepstakes in the C & H Canned Preserves competition at the 2010 Iowa State Fair. She took third in Apricot, first in Cherry, third in Peach, second in Pear and first in Preserves Other Than Named, Pineapple-Apricot Preserves.
In the Famous Dave's Canned Pickles contest, Tarbell-Thomas took first in Cucumber Pickles — Bread & Butter, third in Cucumber Pickles — Sour, sliced horizontally or circular, third in Cucumber Pickles — Sweet, sliced horizontally or circular, first in Cucumber Pickles — Sweet, whole, third in Kosher Dill, whole, pint or quart jar, second in Reduced Sodium Sweet, sliced horizontally, second in Cucumber Pickles Other Than Named, pint or quart jar, second in Beets, whole, first in Carrots, third in Mixed Vegetables, without cucumbers, second in Mild to Medium Peppers, third in Zucchini, third in Green Tomatoes, second in Vegetable Pickles Other Than Named, no cucumbers, third in Spiced Apple Rings, second in Cantaloupe Pickles and third in Fruit Pickles Other Than Named.
In the Piper's Homemade Candies competition Tarbell-Thomas took second with her Turtles.
Tarbell-Thomas earned first place overall in the Chocolaterie Stam Candies competition. Thomas' Turtles secured the honor. Tarbell-Thomas took first in Turtles and second in Coconut Chocolate Candy.
In the C & H Canned Conserve competition, Tarbell-Thomas took second in Apricot, first in Apricot-Almond, second in Peach, first in Apricot in Combination, first in Peach in Combination, tied for first in Sweepstakes. Conserves are similar to jam in consistency and generally contain two or more fruits, one of which is usually a citrus fruit.
In the Dahl's Canned Vegetables competition, Tarbell-Thomas took second in Green Beans, third in Yellow (Wax) Beans, first in Beets, second in Okra, first in Shelled Green Peas, third in Asparagus Spears, second in Sweet Peppers (in water), pint jar, first in Sweet Potatoes (pieces or whole, not mashed or pureed), first in White Potatoes (cubed or whole), first in Vegetable Soup (no meat), first in Sauerkraut (fermented), second in Tomato Juice, third in Single Vegetables Other Than Named and a tie for first in Sweepstakes.
Tarbell-Thomas took first in the Sourdough division of the King Arthur Flour Bread competition at the 2010 Iowa State Fair.
In the Suzette's Candies competition, Tarbell-Thomas took second in Fudge With Nuts, second in Basic Fudge (no marshmallow crème), first in Vanilla Fudge, honorable mention in Maple Nut Fudge, first in Dark Chocolate Fudge, second with Chocolate Dipped Nuts in Chocolate Dipped Fruit or Nuts, second in Turtles, second in Nut Clusters, honorable mention in Caramels, third in Sweetened Nuts, third with Coconut Bonbons in Bon Bons and honorable mention with peanut butter balls in Candy Other Than Named.
In the Ivy's Quality Quick Breads and Muffins competition honorable mention went to Tarbell-Thomas in Vegetable (zucchini, carrot, etc.).
In the C&H Canned Fruit Butters competition, Tarbell-Thomas claimed reserve sweepstakes honors, second place in Plum and first place with sweet potato butter in Fruit Butters Other than Named.
In the C&H Canned Fruits competition, Tarbell-Thomas took third in Apples, third in Applesauce, first in Apricots, second in Blackberries, second with Blueberries in Berries Other Than Named, third in Bing Cherries, second in Grapes, second with cranberry juice in Fruit Juice, second in Pears, third in Pineapple, second in Plums and second with grapefruit and orange sections in Fruits (except berries) Other Than Named.
Tarbell-Thomas took third place overall in the Living History Farms Recipes of Yesteryear contest. She also took first in Homemade Candies and first in Foods Made With Nuts.
Tarbell-Thomas was awarded first place in the Clabber Girl Biscuit contest at the 2010 Iowa State Fair.
In the Bud Elwell's Old Fashion Fudge competition Tarbell-Thomas took third place and $200.
In the Trust Your Recipe to Gurley's competition, Tarbell-Thomas took third in Non-Baked Items.
In both the Dessert and Quick Breads divisions of the Make It with Lard competition, Tarbell-Thomas took second in Desserts with gingersnaps, unfrosted, second in Desserts with chocolate chip cookies, first in Desserts with ingerbread, second in Quick Breads with zucchini bread, second in Quick Breads with corn bread and second in Quick Breads with fruit bread.
In the Vera Towne's Chocolate Brownies with Frosting contest Tarbell-Thomas took fourth place.
In the Foods Made with Honey contest, Tarbell-Thomas earned the reserve sweepstakes award. In the Quick Breads division, she tool first in Muffins and first in Biscuits. In the Honey Creations division, she took first in Honey Creations with cookies.
Tarbell-Thomas took third place in the Creative Caramels in the Land O Lakes Butter competition.
