CENTERVILLE —
On Friday, June 25, 2010, three Appanoose County men traveling a road in Marion County were involved in a head-on collision.
Two of the men — Curtis James Temple II, of Centerville and David Keith Burton, of Exline — did not survive injuries they received as a result of the accident. The third man in the Geo Prizm, Jeremy Glenn Smith, 31, of Centerville, who was driving the car, has been charged with three felonies.
Online court records indicate Smith has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide/ OWI, class B felonies, and one count of serious injury by vehicle, a class D felony. If convicted, Smith could be sent to state prison for 75 years.
Attorneys with the special defense unit of the state public defender unit were appointed to assist Smith in his defense.
Smith was scheduled to attend a pretrial conference Friday, Sept. 2 in Marion County.
The driver of the second vehicle, Amanda Ann Bridgman, of Oskaloosa, at the time was listed as serious but stable and was flown to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Smith at the time was flown from the scene to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines and was listed in fair condition.
The accident occurred at 5:45 a.m. in the 1700 block of Highway T17 near the South Central Iowa Solid Waste Agency in Marion County.
