OTTUMWA — How has Indian Hills Community College handled its financial responsibilities?
An accountant hired by the college will share that information during the IHCC board meeting Monday.
The bookkeeper’s review of the ledgers should match up well with what the state of Iowa demands. Indian Hills hires the Office of the State Auditor to do the job.
They’ve just completed the annual audit for the last fiscal year. Typically, they [then] visit about their findings, said Bob Morrissey, assistant to the president for governmental affairs. Indian Hills is one of the [few schools] to use the state auditor to audit their finances.
Though board members have full access to the audit report, college financial officer Sue Pixley said the accountant will not read the entire 75-page document at Monday’s board meeting they’ll get an overview.
Board members will also get an overview of the Business and Industry and Customized Learning departments.
Customized learning is continuing education, a division of the college that provides training to business and industry, said Mick Lawson, assistant to the president for college and industry relations
He’ll bring up some new ideas during his presentation to the board, like offerings for students 55 and older, camps for kids and new general interest courses.
Multiple advisory boards across the school’s 10-county coverage area help keep the program current by telling the college what each community needs most.
On the business end, companies can hire the college to train employees in a job skill, or to train managers to eliminate waste.
Finally Monday, the trustees will decide who among them will represent the board of trustees at the commencement ceremony. Graduation is scheduled for Feb. 18.
