CENTERVILLE —
Republican challenger John Archer wrapped up his final push to take control of Iowa's Second Congressional district seat now occupied by Democrat Dave Loebsack.
Archer on Friday, Nov. 2 reiterated his pro-business, pro-job creation, reduce taxes, less government regulations message to 15 who gathered at Betty's Cafe in Corydon. Archer said he wants to fix things in Washington, shrink the size of the federal government and use tax payer dollars more efficiently.
Archer said his opponent also has said the federal government is broken and dysfunctional.
"And he's been there for six years," Archer said. "He's part of the problem. We need real leadership here in the second district of Iowa."
Archer said Loebsack's message is not resonating with the voters in Iowa's Second Congressional district.
"Voters want solutions to what ails this country and that's what I've been talking about for the last couple of weeks," Archer said. "I want to leave America more stronger, more secure than what we have today. We need leadership to do that."
Archer said his opponent has cast votes to approve cap and trade, Obamacare and not to approve trade agreements, which have cost Iowans jobs.
Archer said the real weakness is Loebsack and President Barack Obama's policies that have 23 million Americans unemployed or underemployed, 7.9 percent unemployment and one in six or 50 million Americans on food stamps. A situation where more Americans are dependent on government.
Archer said Loebsack, took his 49 percent comments out of context. Archer said it was not meant to demean veterans or social security recipients.
"We need to stop the blame game, stop the personal attacks and find solutions," Archer said. "We need to grow this economy and that's what our message has been. Americans are suffering and we need to get this economy growing again."
Archer said his experience as the senior counsel at John Deere, part owner of a business in Bettendorf and service on the Pleasant Valley School Board has given him the experience to go to Washington as Iowa's Second District congressman.
Archer said he's running not for himself but for the future of America and his two children.
"This isn't about me. This is about Henry and Beatrice and getting this country back on the right track," Archer said, adding runaway federal spending is going to destroy the country. "I want to leave this a better place for them."
Archer said America will go down the path of no return if the same liberal politicians are elected to office. He said Iowans who voted for Obama in 2008 are now seeing the folly of that vote.
Archer said getting Americans back to work and feeling good about themselves provides stability and certainty so they can create jobs, invest and improve southeast Iowa.
"Americans are suffering and we need to get this economy moving again," Archer said.
