CENTERVILLE —
The first ever historic film festival in Centerville was a success, Lisa Eddy said Monday.
"It was worth it. It was fun," Eddy said. "I think everybody who came had a really good time."
Eddy said approximately 150 attended the nine-hour event at the Majestic Theater in Centerville.
The festival started at 12 p.m. Saturday and for the next nine hours 1900-era Christmas themed cartoons, TV shows and movies ran virtually non-stop. The highlight of the day was the 1921 movie, "The Wonderful Thing," while not a Christmas themed film, it does feature outdoor scenes filmed in Appanoose County.
Eddy said a large crowd remained for the showing of "The Wonderful Thing." She said the audience clapped and cheered when scenes from Appanoose County were on the screen.
The film festival was an Appanoose County Historical Society presentation and the brainchild of Lisa Eddy, curator of the Appanoose County Historical and Coal Mining Museum in Centerville.
Volunteers included Patti Timmens, Kathy Cridlebaugh, Gary Cridlebaugh, Tyler Morgan, Gary Craver, George Eddy, Luke Eddy, Debbie Robinson, Susan McDanel, Ruth Dickerson, Kae Morgan, Jon Dorman, Steve Morgan and Mike Halupnick.
Eddy said a lot of people asked if they could do the film festival again next year. Eddy said they hope to build on this year's successful festival with one next year as long as it remains economically feasible.
