Everyone's reason to Relay is as unique as their own personal story. At Relay, you can find healing, comfort, and support from others who have faced cancer or who have lost a loved one to the disease and are there to celebrate their memory. You have a chance to meet people in the community who are equally as passionate about finding an end to cancer in our lifetime.
The Appanoose County Relay for Life is scheduled for Saturday, June 1st from noon to midnight at the Paul Johnson Field behind Lake View Elementary. This year we need to pack the track with as many teams, old and new, as possible. To help with the process the American Cancer Society is offering a 50 percent discount on the $150 team registration fee from now until Kick Off on Feb. 12. To receive the discount, teams must register at www.relayforlife.org, enter the Centerville zip code, which will bring you to our county site and then register your team using the promo code EARLYBIRD75. Kickoff will be held Tuesday, Feb. 12 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Continental at St. Josephs, where team packets can be picked up along with more information on this year’s Relay. Team captain meetings will be held at the Manhattan on March 5, April 2 and May 7 at 5 p.m. to help share information with the teams on the events and fundraising that is taking place. Also anyone interested in forming a team or need help with getting a sponsor to cover their team registration cost can contact Erin Lawson at (641) 895-0476.
No matter why you take part in Relay, however, one thing is clear: with every step you take, you are helping the American Cancer Society save lives. With your help, we aren’t just fighting one type of cancer — we’re fighting for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. Each person who shares the Relay experience can take pride in knowing that they are working to create a world where this disease will no longer threaten the lives of our loved ones or claim another year of anyone’s life. So the Appanoose County Relay for Life invites everyone from our surrounding communities to join together to form teams, whether as a family, a company, an organization, or a school. Together we can and will pack the track as we “Celebrate, Remember and Fight Back!”
