CENTERVILLE —
Organizations from Moulton, Moravia, Mystic, Rathbun, Centerville and Cincinnati were given more than $94,000 in state gaming revenue from the Appanoose County Community Fund Wednesday afternoon.
David Howe announced each recipient, grant dollar amount and project purpose during the 30 minute check presentation meeting at the Centerville Community School District administration building.
"The board and I are very happy to be able to present these grants today to, what we feel, are some very worthwhile projects in Appanoose County," Howe said prior to the checks being presented. "The board had many tough decisions to make as all the requests were for much needed projects."
Howe encouraged the non-profits that applied but were not chosen to apply again for the next round of grants in 2012.
The following organizations received a grant from ACCF Wednesday:
• Moravia Area Historical Society, $5,000 to tuck point Moravia Depot.
• Mystic Highland Cemetery, $2,500 to repair bandstand at the cemetery.
• Moulton-Udell A Club, $5,000 for new sports complex.
• Cincinnati, $5,000 for maintenance shop repairs.
• Appanoose County Girls Softball, $3,500 for a new lawn mower.
• Association for Retarded Citizens, $1,000 for activities.
• Centerville, $1,775 for painting the city's swimming pool.
• Kid's World Day Care, $2,500 for new cribs and playground equipment.
• Moulton EMS, $6,000 for a defibrillator and other emergency equipment.
• Centerville Concert Association, $2,500 for concerts, training and teaching.
• Rathbun, $10,000 for new community building.
• Appanoose County Historical Society, $5,400 to digitize local newspapers.
• United Methodist Church in Unionville, $2,500 for new chair stair lift.
• Rathbun Lake YMCA, $10,000 for new broiler and roof.
• 18-80 Club, $10,000 for new roof and siding.
• Moulton-Udell High School band, $3,500 for new timpani drums.
• Howar Junior High band, $3,500 for new tubas.
• Centerville Garden Club, $5,000 for irrigation system and plants on the Square.
• Moulton Economic Development Association, $9,635.94 for a land purchase for a new business coming to Moulton.
ACCF board of directors includes Bob Pontius, John Probasco, Richard Gordon, Jean Morrison, Larry Bettis, Paul Witt, Tod Faris and David Howe. ACCF was formed in April 2005 as a group eligible to accept gambling funds from the state of Iowa to distribute to non-profits in Appanoose County.
Since that time, ACCF has distributed $446,194.15 in grants to 139 different projects and organizations.

The Centerville City Council Monday night by a 5-0 vote awarded the East Wastewater Pollution Control Plant sludge processing facilities improvement project to low bidder, Oakview dck, LLC, of Red Oak, in the amount of $1,622,300.

Relay For Life Bank Night is on Thursday, May 24 at 5 p.m. at US Bank on the square. Teams are encouraged to bring all money earned thus far to turn in so it can be banked toward their team goals. Luminarias may also be turned in and forms will be available at bank night to purchase them.

Walking Tour around Square Wednesday
Enfys McMurry and Historic Preservation Corporation are celebrating National Historic Month by having a walking tour around the Historic Square District in Centerville Wednesday, May 23 at 1:30 p.m. Meet at Tangleberries on the south side of the Square. The tour is one hour long and then meet back at Tangleberries for tea and scones. Cost is $7 per person including tea and a scone at Tangleberries upon completion of the tour.
