Wayne County Sheriff’s office arrest two for firearms, marijuana

CENTERVILLE — On Monday, Dec. 3, the Wayne County Sheriff's office arrested Richard Raymond Backstrom, 42, of Clio, following a traffic stop in the 2000 block of Highway 2. During the course of the traffic stop deputies located a large quantity of marijuana in the vehicle being operated by Backstrom. Backstrom was arrested and charged with driving while suspended, a simple misdemeanor, and manufacturing marijuana, a class D felony.

An investigation by law enforcement with the Wayne County Sheriff's office and South Central Iowa Drug Task Force led to the execution of a search warrant at the residence of Backstrom and Jeffrey Gene Dhabolt Sr. located at 101 Main St. in Clio.

During the execution of the search warrant officers located items consistent with the manufacturing and delivery of marijuana to include, but not limited to the following: approximately five pounds of cultivated and packaged marijuana, marijuana plant stocks. multiple scales, packaging material, potting soil and fertilizer, numerous firearms and ammunition and multiple items of drug paraphernalia

Dhabolt, 50, was arrested during the execution of the search warrant. Dhabolt and Backstrom were each charged with the following crimes: Manufacturing a schedule I controlled substance, marijuana, a class D felony, possession with the intent to deliver a schedule I controlled substance, marijuana, a class D felony and failure to affix a drug tax stamp, a class D felony. Backstrom was additionally charged with four counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, each being a class D felony.

Backstrom is currently being held in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of$35,000 bond. Dhabolt is also being held in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bond

Assisting the Wayne County Sheriff's office in this investigation were the South Central Iowa Drug Task Force, the Appanoose County Sheriff's office and Wayne County Attorney's office.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
