The Centerville City Council at tonight's meeting will consider making several changes to the Centerville Municipal Airport Commission.
One agenda item calls for the council to consider Councilman Bill McAfee's resignation from the commission. And two other agenda items call for the council to consider appointments to the commission: One is Michelle Moore and the other is Lynette Cisler.
If those three agenda items are passed, an entirely new five-member airport commission will be in place: Moore, Cisler, Andy Woodrick, Jay Rogers and Mike Lennie. The city had to find replacements after four commission members resigned in July.
In a letter addressed to the mayor and City Council, McAfee writes today was his last day on the Airport Commission.
"I was happy to serve on this commission until such time that another individual could be found to fill this position. I am looking forward to supporting the newly selected airport commission as they work to improve the airport services and facilities," writes McAfee. "Even though I am resigning I will continue, as I have in the past, to volunteer and assist the airport. I encourage everyone to volunteer for boards, commissions or any other way possible to help improve the city."
And in other action, the council will consider a request from Michael Graham of Moulton to hold a bow hunt inside Centerville's city limits for disabled persons and the owners of Tangleberries want to offer wine tasting in front of their store on the Square at 100 W. Jackson St. from 3-7 p.m. during Pancake Day festivities.
The council tonight will open bids to award the contract to have repairs made to the roof at City Hall.
Then they will consider the purchase of equipment to replace items destroyed in the flood on July 20 at the Centerville Wastewater Pollution Control Plant. The insurance settlement was nearly $30,000 but to replace similar and additional equipment will cost more than $42,000, meaning the city's 2011 budget will have to come up with almost $12,000.
And the council is expected to set a time and date to accept bids for construction of a post-frame building to be erected at the wastewater plant.
And two residents are expected to address the council: Justine Heffron about community pool operations and Janet Longley about dilapidated properties owned by Gilbert Rice on Haynes Avenue.
