Melcher-Dallas hands Moravia their first loss

CENTERVILLE — The Moravia Mohawks saw their first loss of the season come Friday night at the hands of Melcher-Dallas.

Melcher-Dallas used a big first quarter, scoring 22 points to jump ahead to an early 22-7 lead.

Moravia would bounce back with a 13 point second quarter, with back-to-back scores to close out the first half and make the score 30-20 heading into the locker room.

Melcher would hold the Mohawks to a single touchdown in each of the final two quarters before handing Moravia the 54-33 loss.

“I feel Melcher executed a little better than we did on both sides of the ball,” Moravia head coach Denny Whitlow said. “I hope we can take this loss and use it to help us focus these last two weeks of the season. We must bounce back strong this week against Twin Cedars to save home field advantage for the play-offs.”

This week the Iowegian wants readers to think about President Barack Obama. Since Barack Obama was elected president, two significant things have occurred: The military repealed the "Dont' Ask, Don't Tell" policy allowing gays and lesbians to openly serve and just recently he publicly said he supports gay marriage. For some, these actions signal a shift away from God, morality and threatens national security. Others say it's about time people in same-sex relationships can wed and openly gay service members do not threaten national security. Now, depending on who you listen to, President Obama is the first "gay" president of the United States. Is that something to worry about? So, the question this week is, "President Barack Obama, the first "gay" president of the United States. Is it cause for concern?"

A. Yes it is.
B. No it is not.
C. Don't care.
D. Not sure.
