Rockets move back to class 2A

CENTERVILLE — Coach Eric Kellar enters his 11th year as head coach of the Eddyville-Rocket football program. An extra challenge this year will be moving up from Class 1A football to Class 2A football.

It reunites the team with traditional conference rivals in Albia and  Davis County.

The team must replace quality seniors in Nathan Van Zante, Jake Crosby, Sam Taylor and Kasey Beals to graduation.

Returning starters are Brett Roberts (rb/lb), Chance Wursta (te/lb), Tyler Archer (ol/lb), Drake Menuis (all purpose/db), Brandon Reed (ol/de), Kyle McGrath (ol/de) and Tanner Scott (wb/db).

Newcomers, and some players who saw some action last year include quarterback Trevor Swartz, sophomore running back and defensive end, Dillon Pigsley, sophomore wing and corner, Cory Archer, junior offensive and defensive lineman, Issac McKee, junior receiver and defensive back, Trevor Leffler, junior offensive and defensive lineman, Levi Johnston, sophomore running back and linebacker, Ty Jager, senior offensive and defensive lineman, Nathaniel Harris and junior offensive and defensive lineman, Stacy Boyer.

A number of other players are fighting for spots on the team.

“We return a lot of experience even though we're young,” said Coach Kellar. “We'll be a little bigger at all spots this year which should help us compete more.  If we stay healthy, we'll be in every game.

“Our non-district schedule has us playing two schools with a lot of success and tradition, Montezuma and Pleasantville.  As usual, we find ourselves in one of the toughest districts around. It will be fun competing against such quality teams.”

This week the Iowegian wants readers to think about President Barack Obama. Since Barack Obama was elected president, two significant things have occurred: The military repealed the "Dont' Ask, Don't Tell" policy allowing gays and lesbians to openly serve and just recently he publicly said he supports gay marriage. For some, these actions signal a shift away from God, morality and threatens national security. Others say it's about time people in same-sex relationships can wed and openly gay service members do not threaten national security. Now, depending on who you listen to, President Obama is the first "gay" president of the United States. Is that something to worry about? So, the question this week is, "President Barack Obama, the first "gay" president of the United States. Is it cause for concern?"

A. Yes it is.
B. No it is not.
C. Don't care.
D. Not sure.
