The Knoxville Chamber of Commerce along with Marion County partners; Red Rock Lake Association, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Pella Convention and Visitors Bureau are in preparation for the second annual event. This year offers additional activities for visitors of all ages.
Twenty-six hot air balloons, pilots and their crews will command the event as they soar over the Red Rock Lake area painting the sky with a landscape of color from their launch site at the Red Rock Visitors Center on the south side of Red Rock Dam.
Scheduled activities for the weekend include balloon launches at 6 p.m. both Friday and Saturday evenings, July 13 and 14, morning launches at 6 a.m. Saturday and Sunday mornings and the “Night Glow” tethered event Saturday evening at dusk.
Added adventures to attend or participate in would be volleyball and live band at North Overlook Beach on Friday evening, July 13. Saturday, July 14 offers a pancake breakfast from 7–10 a.m. on the North Overlook Beach plus a 5K and 10K FUNdraiser run. Sign-up available on the event web site www.lakeredrockballoonfest.com.
A bicycle “Show n Go” ride, “Let’s go Paddling,” sand sculpting contest also available on Saturday morning.
Saturday night’s events include family geo-caching and an outdoor movie; “Free Willy” at the South Overlook area with the “Night Glow” event at dusk.
The final balloon launch is scheduled for Sunday morning at 6 a.m.
Balloon rides may be purchased this year.
