KEOKUK —
Arthur "Whitey" "A.W." Clark, 94 of Keokuk, died Friday, July 23, 2010 at 1 a.m. at his home. He was born on Jan. 17, 1916 in Plano, Iowa.
He moved to Keokuk in the early 1950's to help develop Keokuk. Some of the projects he worked on included: Second and Main development, the new Keokuk – Hamilton Bridge, sewer treatment plant and he filled coffers in the Mississippi River for barge traffic at Lock and Dam No. 19. He also worked on many different paving projects: Highway 2, 34, 5, 16, Interstate 80 and numerous others. He was the proud owner of A.W. Clark Trucking, Keokuk. He was involved in numerous community activities, the Keokuk Saddle Club, auctions, parades, and many different festivals around the community. He enjoyed spending time with his grandson Adam and his many friends.
Whitey is survived by three children: Peggy Elane (Clark) Kauzlarich, Artis Gene Clark and James Leon Clark; three brothers: Almerian (Al) Clark, Lavern Clark and Ted Clark. He was preceded in death by his wife: Sophia (Mert) Marie McSwhigan Clark, and siblings: Ivan Clark, Carless Clark, Atlene Clark (Bettis), James Richard Clark, and Vera Maxine Clark (Harkins).
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27 at the Crossroads Cemetery west of Centerville with the Rev. Charles Conger officiating. For visitation, the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Greaves Mortuary in Keokuk. Memorials may be made to the family.
