CENTERVILLE —
Leon Vandike, 98, of Centerville, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012 at Centerville Nursing and Rehab in Centerville.
Leon was born March 26, 1914 south of Exline, the son of Roy and Rose (Baughman) Vandike. Leon graduated from Exline High School in 1932. He was united in marriage with Betty Jane Johnson on Feb. 13, 1943. He drove a truck for 35 years and owned Centerville Sanitation. He also farmed, working was his hobby. He served in the Seabees during WWII, was a member of the American Legion and the First United Methodist Church in Centerville.
He is survived by a son, Roger (Janis) Vandike of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter Charlotte (Larry) Bradley of Centerville; four grandchildren, Jared (Christy) Huish of Nixa, Mo., Justin Huish of Centerville, Michael Vandike of Seymour and Todd Vandike of Pleasant Hill; and three great-grandchildren, Britney Huish, Jacob Huish, Dylan Huish all of Nixa, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; a son, Wayne; and brothers, Ralph and Chester.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 5 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Kay Singley officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:30-2 p.m. before the funeral service. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville.
A memorial has been established to Mercy Hospice in Centerville and may be left or mailed to 1900 South 18th St, Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
