MYSTIC —
Henry Albert Elliott, Sr., 96, of Mystic, died Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Centerville Nursing and Rehab Center in Centerville.
He was born the son of Ernest and Sarah (Phelps) Elliott June 5, 1916 in Mystic. He attended a rural Appanoose Country School near Mystic.
On Feb. 6, 1936 Henry was united in marriage to Edna Ruth Moffatt in Iconium. He worked in the coal mines near Mystic for several years, starting at the age of 10. He was a mechanic and also did some rock hauling. He so enjoyed his time with the Goose Hill Gang in Mystic and he had a love for music, playing his stringed instruments at many, many jam sessions.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Edna Elliott on Aug. 23, 1995; son, Johnny Elliott on Dec. 2, 2000; and a daughter, Rosella Roby.
Henry is survived by: his son, Henry Elliott, Jr.; his wife, Debra of Mystic; a daughter, Carolyn Bills of Centerville; daughter-in-law, Gloria Elliott of Mystic; a brother, Edward Elliott of LeClaire; sisters, Maxine Self of Townlee, Ala. and Cathlene Smith of Seymour; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 6 at the Highland Cemetery near Mystic with the Rev. Brian Hargrave officiating. Burial will follow. A visitation will be held Thursday, July 5 from 2-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials will be designated at a later date and can be given in his name and mailed to or left at the funeral home. The Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville has been entrusted with the arrangements and condolences can be sent at: schmidtfamilyfuneralhome.com.
