CENTERVILLE —
Edna "Virginia" Cornett, 94, of Centerville, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at Golden Age Care Center in Centerville.
She was born the daughter of Joseph Frank and Alpharetta May (Fisher) Thomas on Nov. 10, 1918 near Jerome. She graduated from the Centerville Community High School in Centerville.
On May 28, 1938, Virginia was united in marriage to Kenneth "Bill" Cornett in Unionville, Mo. She worked for several area families as a homemaker. For nearly 70 years, she was a member of the Solid Rock Church of God in Centerville.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Kenneth "Bill" Cornett; daughter, Eloise Stickler; brothers, James Edward, Floyd Arthur, Lloyd Richard and Lawrence Franklin Thomas; and sisters, Charlotte Susan Curtis, Gustava May Marshall, Mildred Lucille Green-Karth, Leonora Ruth Anders, Lula Maurine Thomas, Lola Marie Archer, Donna June White and Lila Lee Thomas.
Virginia is survived by: her children, Linda Van Dike of Centerville, Loretta Allen and her husband, Tom of Centerville and Christina Smith and her husband, Ron of Des Moines; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Solid Rock Church of God in Centerville with the Rev. Terry Chapman and the Rev. Tony Angran officiating. Burial will follow at the Haines Cemetery north of Centerville. Visitation was held Monday, Dec. 17 from 1-8 p.m. at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 6-8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Solid Rock Church of God in Centerville and can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
