SEYMOUR —
Bonnie Lois Van Dyne, 95, a long time resident of Seymour and most recently a resident of Maple Ridge Assisted Living in Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012 at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospital in Oskaloosa. Bonnie was born July 25, 1917 in Powersville, Mo. to John S. Crawford and Fern (Kuntz) Crawford. She graduated from the Powersville High School in Powersville, Mo.
On Sept. 13, 1935, Bonnie was united in marriage to Asa “Bill” Van Dyne in Princeton, Mo. Bonnie and Bill farmed in Missouri and Iowa for many years. Bonnie was employed many years by the Seymour Community Schools as a cook and later became the head cook. She was very proud of her employment and took great pride in her work. Upon the death of her husband in 1985, Bonnie moved to Seymour and continued to live there until September of 2010 when she moved to the Maple Ridge Assisted Living in Oskaloosa. Bonnie was a member of the Seymour Methodist Church.
Bonnie loved to garden, read, play cards, but her greatest love was her family. She always remembered the birthdays, graduations and anniversaries of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a role model for many. She loved to cook and bake, but seldom used a recipe. Failures were non-existent.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Bill Van Dyne.
Bonnie is survived by: her daughters, Margaret Shankster and her husband Dennis of Oskaloosa and Elaine Wells and her husband Ray of Crowley, Texas; sons, Wayne Van Dyne and wife Pat of Cary, Ill. and Doyle Van Dyne and wife Linda of Buffalo, Minn.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three half sisters; and three half brothers.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 29 at 11 a.m. at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with her grandson-in-law Dr. David Everson officiating. Burial will follow in the Southlawn Cemetery in Seymour. Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 28 from 5-7 p.m. with the family present at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Seymour United Methodist Church in Seymour and may be left or mailed to the funeral home.
