Paddy Joe ‘P.J.’ Davis

UNIONVILLE, Mo. — Paddy Joe “P.J.” Davis, resident of Unionville, Mo., passed away at the age of 78, on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, in his home surrounded by his family.

Paddy Joe was born in Lucerne, Mo. June 28, 1934, to Joe R. and Mary Ellen (Wilson) Davis. P.J. was united in marriage to Joanne Ryals June 15, 1952. To this marriage three children were born: Michael J. (1954), Patrick Steven (1957) and Tammy Lynn (1958).

P.J. attended Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo., on an athletic scholarship and Northeast Missouri State College, now Truman State University. P.J. worked at Davis Chevrolet Buick Olds before opening Davis Auto Supply in Unionville, Mo. in 1960. He moved his family to Moberly, Mo. in 1961, where he opened an auto supply business for Charlie Wright, later acquired by Paul Rupp. The Davis family returned to Unionville, Mo. in 1976, taking over his father’s car dealership at that time.

P.J. and Joanne were members of Central Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, in Moberly, Mo. where P.J. served as Deacon. P.J. was an active member of Lions Club and Masonic Lodge. P.J. always enjoyed spending time with his family. He tutored each grandchild in the finer art of driving a golf cart around the home acreage.

P.J. was preceded in death by his parents, Joe R. Davis and Mary Ellen Davis. He is survived by his wife, Joanne. P.J. is also survived by son, Michael, and his wife, Jan, of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; son, Steve, and his wife, Nancy, of St. Louis, Mo.; and daughter, Tammy, and her husband, Joe Ream, of Unionville, Mo. Grandchildren are Ashley and her husband, Jimmy Lohman, of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; Cale Davis and his wife, Jill, of Lexington, S.C.; Courtnee Ream and fiancé, Chris Kottwitz of St. Joseph, Mo.; and Nichol Davis of St. Louis, Mo. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren, Zane Lohman, Zacalen Lohman, Braelyn Davis, Keelyn Davis and Treislyn Davis. P.J. is also survived by several Ryals family brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and Davis family cousins.

At P.J.’s request, his body was cremated at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville with no formal services at this time. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Hospice of Northeast Missouri, located in Kirksville, Mo.
