Lydle Wayne “Sleepy” McBride, 81, of Moravia, passed away Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.
Wayne was born July 13, 1931 in Ottumwa, the son of Albert Elmer and Mable Kathryn (Downer) McBride. He graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1949. Wayne married Mary Lou Myers Aug. 25, 1952 in Lancaster, Mo. He lost his wife on July 29, 2001 after a battle with colon cancer.
In August of 1952, Wayne enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country with honor until his honorable discharge in September of 1954. Wayne was a veteran of the Korean War.
Wayne worked several jobs during his lifetime. He was a ham boner at John Morell’s in Ottumwa from 1947-71. Wayne also operated a fork lift at Chamberlan’s in Albia and was an insulation foamer on doors and windows. Furthermore, he operated a skidder for his son-in-law Mark.
He is survived by seven children, Terri (Gerald) Buesing of Ponca City, Okla., Barbara (Edward) Robinson of Moravia, Carla (Mark McGrann) Cochran of Mystic, Peggy (Larry) Bird of Blakesburg, Becky (Bill) Underwood of Moravia, Susie (Mark) Long of Albia and Fred (Janice) McBride of Moravia; a sister, Patricia Osteen; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Mary Lou McBride.
Funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5 at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia with Pastor Terry Chapman officiating. Burial with full military rites will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Unionville Legion Post No. 407. A visitation will be held today at the funeral home from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. with the family present 6-8 p.m.
