Centerville — Robert Glenn “Bob” Strunk, passed away March 14, 2010 at the Continental Care Center in Seymour at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 17 days. He was born the sixth of seven children on Jan. 25, 1922 in Union Township, Appanoose County, to Daniel Logan and Iva Edna (Miller) Strunk. He attended Miller School in Union Township and Moravia High School in Moravia. He farmed with his father and brothers, then on his own, along with occasional outside employment, till retirement. Bob accepted Christ as his Savior as a young man, followed the Lord in baptism, and attended church services in communities in which he lived, mainly Miller Baptist near Unionville, Iowa and the Unionville Baptist Church in Unionville, Iowa.

On April 22, 1951 he was united in marriage to Mary "Laura" Bryant at Simpson Chapel in Franklin Township, Appanoose County. To this union were born three children: Barbara Ann, Gayle Marie and Daniel Robert. Bob and Laura spent their entire married life in Appanoose and Wayne counties. Their first home was northeast of Unionville, then on the Strunk home farm southeast of Moravia. From 1962 to 1966 they farmed west of Sewal, then moved to their farm north of Moulton, from which they retired and moved to Centerville in 1989. In 2006 they moved to Seymour.

Bob enjoyed working outdoors, whether it was riding on the John Deere doing field work, working in the garden or doing any number of things he found to keep him busy. He had a love for geography and beautiful scenery and a remarkable memory of dates and people. He was a student of nature, collecting rocks and had a great knowledge of trees. As long as he was able, he enjoyed reminiscing about his childhood days.

Bob is survived by: daughters, Barbara (Henry) Adams of Seymour and Gayle (Steve) Davenport of Coatsville, Mo.; son, Danny (Pam) Strunk of Moulton; four grandchildren, Amy (Scott) DeVore of Seymour, Joshua (Tara) Davenport of Spencer, Molly Davenport of Coatsville, Mo. and Ruth Adams of Seymour; six great-grandchildren, Sydney, Madison and Denver DeVore and Jodi, Wendi and Clayton Davenport; brother, Lester "Punk" (Betty) Strunk of Moravia; sister, Betty Caster of Moravia; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: wife, Laura Strunk on Nov. 30, 2009; his parents; granddaughters, Rachel and Sarah Adams; brothers, Lazelle and Russell Strunk; and sisters, Eleanor Burton and in infancy Gladys Strunk; sisters-in-law, Alberta, Juanita and Rosemary Strunk; and brothers-in-law, Gerald Burton and Clifford Caster.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 19 at 11 a.m. at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with Pastor Joshua Davenport officiating. Burial will follow in the Eaton Cemetery near Unionville, Iowa. A visitation will be held Thursday, March 18 from 1-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
