CENTERVILLE —
Jerry J. Grimes, 71, of Centerville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012 at Centerville Nursing & Rehab Center in Centerville.
He was born the son of Keith and Margaret (Wilson) Grimes on May 17, 1941 in Corydon, Iowa. He graduated from the Corydon High School in Corydon.
He was first united in marriage to Wilma Hogue, to this union, four children were born. They later were divorced, and on June 15, 1996 Jerry was united in marriage to Margaret Propps in Centerville. He worked for the Centerville School system for many years before his health prevented him from working. He drove a school bus, delivered school meals to the surrounding Centerville Schools and also would serve meals at Lakeview Cafeteria.
Jerry was a devoted Christian, and served the Lord with his whole heart and soul. He attended the Church of the Nazarene in Centerville, until he passed into his Heavenly Home.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Keith and Margaret Grimes; his In-laws, Clarence and Dortha Propps; a sister, Aline Searby; and a grandson, Dyllan Clay Lawson.
Jerry is survived by: his wife, Margaret Grimes of Centerville; four children, Rick Grimes of Omaha, Neb., Becky West and her husband, Rodney of Centerville, Carol Lawson and her husband, Dennis of Bloomfield and Penny Rocha of Centerville; his grandchildren, Jeremy, Kristin and Brittany Grimes of Omaha, Neb., Rachel and her husband, Mike Davis of Knoxville, Bridgette Zaputil and her husband, Jamie of Mystic, Cody West and his wife, Samantha of Centerville, Dustin Lawson and his wife, Kim of Bloomfield, Clarissa Prevo and her husband, Kyle of Bloomfield, Kellie and Sarah Rocha of Centerville; great grandchildren, Maddison and Makenzie Varner of Knoxville, Hayden West of Centerville, Wyatt, Remey, Jo, Colton and Cody Zaputil of Mystic, Kasen Martin of Centerville, Gracie and Dyallan Lawson of Bloomfield; siblings, Virginia Bettis of Colorado, Larry and Gerald Grimes both of Corydon, Louise Pence of Altoona, John and James Grimes of Marshalltown; In-laws, Mary Breeze of Breckenage, Mo., Shirley Propps of Kansas City, Mo. and Wanda Leck of Centerville; also, many nephews, nieces and multitudes of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012 at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with the Rev. Walter King officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. Public visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home with the family present.
