CENTERVILLE —
Michael F. Davis, 59, of Centerville, died Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.
He was born the son of Fred H. "Ginger" and Ellen L. (Johnson) Davis on March 20, 1953 in Bloomfield. He graduated from the Moravia High School in Moravia.
From 1973 to 1975, he worked for the Rock Island Railroad, then in 1975 began working for the Burlington Railroad until his accident in 1984. Mike was residing at the Mercy Medical Center's Long Term Care, where he had made many friends. Mike could be seen sitting by the nurse’s station and greeting people as they walked by. If he wasn't there, he was walking the halls visiting with the hospital staff. He enjoyed the Rathbun Country Music Theater and was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mike is survived by two aunts, Kitty Johnson of Rockford, Ill. and Margaret Moore of Kent, Wash., as well as many cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, July 29, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with the Rev. Carl Heien officiating. Burial of his ashes will be later at the Unionville Cemetery in Unionville, Iowa. No visitation is planned and memorials can be made to the Rathbun Country Music Theatre and left or mailed to the funeral home.
