CENTERVILLE —
William “Bill” Eatock, Sr., 86, of the Eastern Star Masonic Home and formerly of 119 South Linn St. in Boone passed away at the Boone County Hospital on Wednesday evening, March 13, 2013.
James William “Bill” Eatock was born Nov. 4, 1926 in Centerville to Edmund and Bernice (See) Eatock.
Bill graduated in 1943 from Centerville High School. He served in the Navy and then attended the University of Missouri. Bill played baseball at Missouri from 1947 to1950 and was the Tiger’s team captain in 1950. He went on to sign with the Braves organization that same year. His major league career ended at the plate the following Spring, when he was hit in the head and knocked out by a pitch. He also played for the Schaller Red Caps for a couple of seasons during the 1950s.
He married Mildred (Wolary) Fullhart in May 1960. Millie’s two children Clifford (1940) Fullhart and Cynthia (1943) Fullhart (Burnside), were joined by two children Sandra (1961) Eatock (Mitchell), and William “Bill” (1962) Eatock. Bill enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports, especially football, baseball and golf. He was a frequent observer of practice sessions, as well as a loyal fan at home and away games. He never sat in the bleachers; preferring instead to walk along the fence. Grandpa Bill enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was happy to share his birthday with his newest great-grandchildren — twin girls born Nov. 4, 2012.
Bill had a successful sales career with Iowa Veterinary Supply Company, retiring in 2000. He earned many awards, prizes, and trips for his marketing ability. He organized fishing and hunting trips as well as many golf outings for his customers. Bill enjoyed being with people and made many good friends through his work.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents Edmund and Bernice Eatock, wife Mildred in 2010, and brother Sam in 2011.
He is survived by four children: Cliff, Cindy, Sandy and Bill; eight grandchildren: Heather, Todd, Jeremy, Paige, Josh, Tyler, Aaron and Abby; and seven great-grandchildren: Mazie, Emily Rose, T.J., Rylie, Madelynn, Josie and Brynlee.
Following Bill’s wishes, his body has been cremated.
