MYSTIC —
Michael Robert Walker, 63, of Mystic, died Thursday evening, Jan. 24, 2013 at his home.
Michael was born in Bristol, Penn. on Feb. 7, 1949 the son of George and Marion (Colton) Walker. He attended school in Pennsylvania and then after moving around a bit he settled down in Mystic in the late 80s. He was joined in marriage to Kimberly Diane Hatfield on Feb. 12, 1994 in Mystic.
Michael was a member of the Des Moines Carpenters Union No. 106 and considered himself a carpenter by trade. He enjoyed woodworking and building and collecting model cars and ships in his spare time. He loved to rock-out and was always cracking jokes. He loved spending time with friends and family and especially his grandson Mason was his “favorite medicine.”
Michael is survived by his wife, Kimberly Hatfield-Walker; daughters Brandi Lynn Hatfield (Charles Ford) of Centerville and April Walker of Mystic; son Brian Lee Hatfield (Sarah Mattly) of Mystic; grandson Mason Steven Rogers Ford of Centerville; brothers Thomas (Beverly) Walker of New Jersey and Charles Walker of Mystic; sister Debbie Earnest of Pennsylvania; sister-in-law Jane Walker of Rathbun; and a large extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents and brother James “Jimmy” Walker.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Mystic Community Center in Mystic.
A memorial has been established to the family and can be left at or mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory at 1900 South 18th St. Centerville, Iowa 52544.
