CENTERVILLE —
On Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at Golden Age Care Center in Centerville, the angels came and took Laura Ruth French home to begin her heavenly life with all friends and family members who have gone before her.
Laura Ruth French was born to James and Rosie Peppers Sept. 4, 1919, in Chariton. She was one of six children and the only surviving member of this family.
Laura was united in marriage to Francis French in Van Meter July 4, 1940, and to this union four children were born, Roberta, Richard, Carol and Harry. For many years Laura and her husband, Francis, ran a cafe in Booneville. Laura's cafe was a meeting place for everyone in the area and was known for its tenderloins, chili and steaks on Saturday night.
Laura was a member of the Waukee Baptist Church. Cooking was a lifetime passion and many friends and family were always glad to sample the fruits of her labor. Laura lived most of her life in the Van Meter and Booneville areas and most recently resided at Maple Grove Assisted Living in Centerville where she moved to be close to family.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 67 years, Francis; brothers, Merle, Tom, Harry and James Peppers; and sister, Adelaine Parsons.
She is survived by her children, Roberta (Dale) Weeks of Seymour, Richard (Brenda) French of Perkosie, Penn., Carol Schneider of Galveston, Texas and Harry (Deb) French of Van Meter; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel in Des Moines with Chaplain Carol Lammatteo-Code officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
