CENTERVILLE —
Fern (Mary) Covington, 95, of Centerville, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012 at the Centerville Nursing and Rehab Center.
Fern was born Dec. 25, 1916 at Centerville the daughter of George and Minnie Russell Ashby. She graduated from Centerville High School. She was united in marriage to John Huffman, Jr. in Unionville, Mo. on March 10, 1940. He died in 1947. She married Howard Covington Nov. 16, 1949 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua. He also preceded her in death in 2006. In her early years she worked at the Tiptop Market, the Ritz Theatre and later at Spurgeons. She spent her later years as a homemaker. She was a member of the IOOF Rebekah Lodge, the Friendly Neighbors Birthday Club and the First Presbyterian Church in Centerville.
She is survived by three children, John (Kathy) Huffman of Centerville, Linda (Benjamin) Oskin of Montrose, Colo. and Harold Covington of Iowa City; daughter-in-law Nancy Covington of Iowa City; special niece Patty Davis of Centerville; four grandchildren, John A. Huffman of Centerville, Jeffrey (Ashley) Huffman of Marion, Ann Covington of Iowa City and Alan Covington of Kansas City, Mo.; and five great-grandchildren, Kalanna Proctor, Hannah Huffman, Emma Huffman, Connor Huffman and Ethan Kron.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, John Huffman, Jr. and Howard Covington; parents; twin brother Vern (Bill) Ashby; brothers Raymond Ashby and Harley Ashby and sisters Elizabeth Ashby Roby and Olive Ashby Ford.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Suzanne Gorhau officiating. Friends may call Sunday, Aug. 26 from noon until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville.
