SUN CITY, Ariz. —
Robert (Bob) Faust, 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012 at Royal Oaks Care Center in Sun City, Ariz.
He was born on Feb. 18, 1922 to Bill and Alvina Faust in their home in rural Hawkeye. He spent his early childhood in South Dakota, returning to Iowa in 1936.
The family relocated to Fayette in 1937 and Bob attended Fayette High school where he met the love of his life, Dorothy Cline. Bob graduated from high school in 1941 and continued to work on the family farm until he and Dorothy married in February of 1945. They continued to farm until May of 1955 when he started a job as a salesman for radio station KOEL in Oelwein.
Along the way, they raised four sons and, through their industrious efforts, ensured that each of them was able to obtain a college education.
Sales turned out to his forte. He always had a story and enjoyed his interaction with people. In 1965, he entered into a partnership with his brother, Everett and Everett’s business partners in the purchase of radio station KCOG in Centerville. They subsequently started a cable TV franchise in Centerville.
The transition from salesman to business owner enabled him to over-involve himself in his work and community service. He was active in the Lutheran Church, the Chamber of Commerce, the County Fair Board, the Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Rotary Club.
In 1977, Bob and Dorothy migrated to Arizona, first to Prescott Valley, and then to Sun City in 1984. In his retirement, Bob was active in Mission Builders, the Stephen Ministry and providing assistance to his friends and neighbors. He was also an avid golfer for many years.
He is survived by his brother Everett and his wife Mary-Jean Faust of Atlantic; sister-in-law Betty Cline of Waterloo; sons, Ken (Flavia) of Ukiah, Calif., John of Phoenix, Ariz., Dick (Dinah) of Mauston, Wis. and Joe of Monroe, Wis. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by Dorothy, his wife of 65 years; brothers Bill and wife Eileen Faust of Tonawanda, N.Y. and Harold and wife Vida Faust of Viroqua, Wis.; and sister Dorothy and husband Kenneth Meyer of Waterloo.
A service and interment will be held at the American Lutheran Church of Sun City, 17200 N. Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ 85373, at 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 16.
The family requests that memorials be made to The Alzheimer’s Association.
