MARSHALL, Mo. —
Jerry Leland Walter, 71, of rural Marshall, Mo, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Mo.
Visitation will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral in Marshall, Mo. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22 at Marshall Cumberland Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Randy Shannon officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall, Mo.

Born Sept. 21, 1941, in Centerville, he was the son of the late Aubrey Leland Walter and Ileta Luse Walter. He was a 1959 graduate of Centerville High School. He joined the U.S. Navy where he served as an aircraft mechanic.
On June 2, 1963, he married Cheryl Diane Williams who survives of the home. At that time he was working for Gamble’s in Centerville and was transferred here to Marshall as assistant manager. He later worked for Sam’s Discount Store, Wonder Bread and Butternut Bread, then served as an agent for American Family Insurance for 35 years. He won many honors and trips and the J.D. Powers Award for several years. He considered his clients as his friends. He retired in September of 2009 when his health began to fail.
He enjoyed going to Wal-Mart sitting out front to see and talk to his past clients and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing, hunting and his horses.
He was a member of Marshall Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he had served as a youth leader when his children were young, an elder for three separate terms and also had been a member of the Men’s Fellowship. He loved his church family and most of all he loved God.
He was a member of the Optimist Club and managed a winning youth baseball team when the Optimist Club sponsored the Youth Baseball. He enjoyed time with the youth. He later was a member of the Kiwanis Club.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Cheryl; one son, Chadwick Leland Walter of Marshall, Mo.; one daughter, Amy Christine Eiberger and husband Dale of King City, Mo.; three grandchildren, Holly Walter Rayl and husband Josh of Marshall, Mo., Emily Eiberger and Adam Eiberger of King City, Mo.; one great-grandson, Braxton Rayl; two brothers, Jet Walter and wife Sandra of Marshall, Mo. and Kevin Walter and wife Shelly of Marshall; his best friends his two Yorkies, Midget and Katalina; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
