Loran “Keith” Conger, age 83, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2007 at his home near Exline.
He was born near Mendota, Mo., the son of Charles M. and Clittie Parlee (Mikels) Conger on Aug. 14, 1924. He attended the Mayflower School south of Cincinnati. Due to a prolonged illness, he was not able to attend high school and since 1940, lived with his parents on their Century Farm, south of Exline, until their deaths and for the remainder of his life.
Keith was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Esther Kerby, Bernice Campbell, Doris Bates and Avis Tice; and a brother Donald Conger.
Keith is survived by one brother, Charles (Marjorie) J. Conger of Centerville and numerous nieces and nephews.
Keith was immersed into Christ in Shoal Creek, for the remission of his sins and attended the Exline and Cincinnati Churches of Christ. He was an avid reader and was self-educated, loved poetry, and wrote nearly 200 poems over a period of 30 years. In 1977, Keith was invited by the National Poetry Association, headquartered in Washington D.C., emceed by Art Linkletter. Weatherman Willard Scott and other celebrities planned the event. Keith declined saying, “I’d be like a fish out of water at an occasion like that.”
Since 1940, Keith had raised Polled Hereford cattle and enjoyed the peace and quiet of country life. He was a good neighbor, always willing to lend a helping hand.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007 at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home with Jerry Weller officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati.
Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home from 1 to 8 p.m., withthe family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
