Lena Mattly, 89, of Seymour died Dec. 28, She was born in Lucas County north of Bethlehem, Iowa to Ira and Pearl Dyer on Sept. 28, 1918. Lena married Raymond Mattly on Jan. 17, 1942 in Princeton, Missouri. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Seymour.
She worked as a cook at Seymour schools for many years, and also worked for McGraw Edison, Seymour Care Center and as a housekeeper for many of the elderly in Seymour. Lena loved to cook big family dinners and have all of her children and grandchildren for any meal. She would cook for a dozen or more deer hunters every year during deer season, and some of the hunters said they came for her home cooking instead of hunting. Lena was a hard worker all of her life and maintained her big yard until she was 84 years old. She loved to mow and keep her yard looking nice. She also enjoyed to fish for crappies at the lake with Raymond, Dean, Rose, James and Hilda.
Lena is survived by sons: Jerry and Myrna of Bettendorf, Gene of Seymour, Glenny of Madill, Oklahoma, Dewey and Ann of Springfield, Ohio, and daughter Carol and David of Mystic and a special 5th son Doug Butler of Bettendorf. Also surviving are grandchildren: Kris (Mattly) Smith, Jenny Mattly, Erik Mattly, Julie (Mattly) Harvey, Mike Mattly, Sherry (Mattly) Lawrence, Shelly (Mattly) Clemens, Susanne (Mattly) Nugent, Chad Mattly, Kim (Mattly) Herbst, Shane (Mattly) Thornbill, Jeff Hornaday, Tara (Hornaday) Micetich and 27 great grandchildren, brother Lyle Dyer of Las Vegas and sisters: Beulah Grismore, Evah Montieth, Leta Guthrie of Corydon, and Donna Gookin of Chariton.
She was preceded in death by Raymond, her parents, brother Coy Dyer, sisters Floy Buttz and Opal Vesey, and one great grandson Gabe Mattly.
Funeral services were Sunday, Dec. 30, at the Randolph Funeral Home in Seymour. Officiating was Pastor Robert Pick.
The pianist was Mary Parker with Milton Albertson as soloist.
Musical selections were “Good Night Here and Good Morning Up There” and “This World Is Not My Home.” Pallbearers were Jeff Hornaday, Mike Mattly, Erik Mattly, Chad Mattly, Tommy Micetich, Doug Lawrence, Shawn Clemens and Drew Herbst.
Interment was at the Southlawn Cemetery in Seymour.
