Frank L. McVeigh

Frank L. McVeigh, age 84 of Centerville, formerly of Mystic, died Jan. 18, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.

Frank was born July 24, 1923, the son of Emmit and Mary (Lewis) McVeigh in Sacramento, Calif.

Frank married Twilah Hunt on May 9, 1942 in Unionville, Mo. He worked for Valley Construction out of Rock Island, Ill., and L&W; drilling dynamite.

He enjoyed gardening, farming, fishing, camping and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the American Legion holding the post of vice commander and belonged to the Mystic Christian Church.

Frank is survived by his wife Twilah McVeigh of Mystic; four children, Frances Ashby of Mystic, David (Betty) McVeigh of Numa, Kathy (Laurel) Varner of Mystic and Roger (Fran) McVeigh of Unionville, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; one step- great grandchild; and six great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Naomi Horstman; brothers, Harry, John, and Bob McVeigh; a daughter, Carol Barrell; grandsons, Johnny and Frankie McVeigh; great grandson, Avery Martin; a grandson-in-law, John Mar­tin; and a son-in-law, Dean Beaty.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Tuesday, at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home in Centerville with Pastor Holly Oden officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Mystic. A visitation will be held Monday with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established to the Mystic American Legion or Highland Cemetery Associ­ation and may be left at or mailed to the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
