Laura Marie Pollard

Laura Marie Pollard, age 85, of Centerville, Iowa, went to be with her Savior on Sunday, February 10, 2008 at The Continental Care Center in Seymour, Iowa.

She was born the daughter of Frank M. and Francis (Amick) Hunt on August 17, 1922 in Elmwood, Nebraska. She graduated from the Weep­­ing Water Community Schools in Weeping Water, Nebraska in 1938.

On February 14, 1942, she was united in marriage to Marritt F. Pollard, Jr in Weeping Water, Nebraska. In March of 1942 they moved to a farm south of Seymour, Iowa. They lived in the area until 1958, when they moved to a farm near Centerville, Iowa. Laura was a member of the Solid Rock Church of God in Center­ville, Iowa; she was saved and baptized during Rev. Hart's ministry at Seymour, Iowa. She played the piano and the organ for countless church services, taught Sunday school, served on the board of the Women's Aglow for this area, was the church secretary and treasurer for many years. She served her community as a 4-H Leader, a Girl Scout Leader, worked as superintendent of the Flower Department at the Appanoose County Fair. She was a member of the Town & Country Garden Club and dearly loved her plants and fresh flowers.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; brothers, Marvin and Meryl Hunt; sisters, Mabel Armstrong and Nell Kitchen.

Laura was most proud of her surviving family: her daughter, Denise and her husband, Ray Ballanger of Cincinnati, Iowa; grandsons, Lucas, Lincoln and Logan Ballanger of Cincinnati, Iowa; Step-grandchildren, Randy Ballanger of Missouri and Karrie Toohill of Bloomfield, Iowa; sister-in-law, Ingrid "B" Hunt of Minnesota and Ruth Chi­eppa of Florida; brother-in-law, Harold Pollard of Nebraska as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb­ruary 13, 2008 at 10 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Kristopher Wattelet officiating. Burial will follow at the Livingston Cemetery south of Numa, Iowa. Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, February 12, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville from 1 p.m. till 8 p.m.
