CENTERVILLE —
Gilbert L. Cullor, 93, of Long Lane, Mo., went to be with the Lord on Oct. 20, 2012, in Marshfield, Mo.
He was born the eldest son of Richard and Daisy (Morgan) Cullor on Dec. 27, 1918, on a farm near Unionville, Putnam County, Mo. He received his education at West Liberty School, a one room country school, in Putnam County. Gilbert was an Army veteran of World War II.
On Aug. 19, 1936, he was united in marriage to Mary Ruth Bishop of Lucerne, Putnam County, Mo., a union that would last 72 years. They raised their family on a farm in Appanoose County, Iowa, near Cincinnati, before moving to south Missouri in 1968.
Gilbert was a life-long Christian, attending churches in all the communities in which he lived. He and Mary Ruth provided a loving Christian home for their family of seven children. Gilbert raised livestock and devoted part of his farm to raising wildlife of various species. He was also instrumental in preserving the purity of a Colonial Spanish breed of horses from the southwest United States.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; son, Martin L. Cullor; son, Joseph L. Cullor; brother, Rex Cullor; sister, Pearl Conner; sister, LaRue Hodges; sister, Rose Anna Stottlemyer; grandson, Stephen Dean Dixon; grandson, Paul Cullor II; grandson, Eli Alexander; grandson, Jonathan Cullor; and great-grandson, Elijah Alexander.
Survivors include: son, Paul Cullor, Sr. and wife, Rita, of Prescott, Ariz.; daughter, Elizebeth Dixon and husband, Gale, of Cedar Rapids; daughter-in-law, Linda Cullor of Belton, Mo.; son, John Cullor and wife, Kathy, of Cincinnati; daughter, Judith Weaver and husband, Doyle, of Nevada, Mo.; daughter, Naomi Alexander and husband, Patrick, of Marshfield, Mo.; brother, M. L. Cullor of Powersville, Mo.; brother, Luther C. Cullor of Forreston, Ill.; and grandchildren, Lynda Cullor, Janice Thumma, Jane Leykauf, Aaron Cullor, Timothy Cullor, Jennifer Heidenwith, Marc Stokes, Amanda Stokes and Joshua Alexander. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends.
A military funeral will be held today at 1 p.m. at the Cantlon Otterness Funeral Home in Buffalo, Mo. with Patrick Alexander and the Rev. Howard Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Grove Cemetery on Old Highway 65, south of Buffalo. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. prior to the funeral.
