VENICE, Calif. —
Virgene Roma Johnson, 91, of Venice, Calif. and a former resident of Appa-noose County, died peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at her home in Venice.
She was born the daughter of Joseph and Lucile (Stuckey) Price on July 8, 1921 near Unionville, Iowa. She attended Udell Community Schools and later graduated from Parsons College in Fairfield.
Virgene moved to Los Angeles, Calif. in the late 1940s. On Jan. 16, 1949, she was united in marriage to Leland H. Johnson in Glendale, Calif. She was a homemaker and enjoyed her life as a wife.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Leland H. Johnson on Feb. 1, 1993; brothers, Harry Price, Harold Price and Herb Price; sisters, Agnes Ford and Annabelle Cochran.
Virgene is survived by: her son, Richard H. Johnson and his wife, Joyce of Santa Monica, Calif.; and a daughter, Julie Daigle of Venice, Calif.; grandchildren, Cindy Manley and her husband, Scott of Washington, D.C., Sara Howard and her husband, Deven of Central Point, Ore. and Kathy Daigle of San Francisco, Calif.; and a sister, Vera Young of Fairfield.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5 at the Fairview Church of the Brethren near Udell with the Rev. Carl and Sharon Heien officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery near Udell. Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, Jan. 4 from 5-7 p.m. at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville.
Memorials can be made to the Fairview Church of the Brethren and can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
