Upcoming activities for adults at Sharon Bluffs State Park include Fox Club and a basket making class

There are many educational programs provided for kids at the nature center in Sharon Bluffs State Park, but adults — here’s a program just for you!

OK, let’s call adults “big kids” since we are all young at heart. Everyone is invited to the Fox Club which is a monthly program for adults that enjoy nature and the outdoors.

On Monday, March 8 from 1-2:30 p.m., Laura DeCook, ACCB naturalist, will present a program about owls and let you see the resident great horned owl up close. Along with the presentation, you will be treated with a homemade dessert and coffee.

There is no cost for the program, but donations will be appreciated to help cover the cost of refreshments.

Pre-register for the owl program by calling (641) 895-1775.

A basket making class will be held on Friday, March 19 at the Center 2000 in Sharon Bluffs State Park from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The class is designed for individuals that have little or no experience in basket making. Participants will be instructed step-by-step on how to make a basket by using a wooden base, reeds and a wooden mold to shape the basket. At the end of the class, you will be able to take home your basket.

All materials will be provided for each participant that pays the class fee of $20. However, you must pre-register by March 17 in order to make a basket. Call (641) 895-1775 to sign up for the basket class.

This week the Iowegian wants readers to think about President Barack Obama. Since Barack Obama was elected president, two significant things have occurred: The military repealed the "Dont' Ask, Don't Tell" policy allowing gays and lesbians to openly serve and just recently he publicly said he supports gay marriage. For some, these actions signal a shift away from God, morality and threatens national security. Others say it's about time people in same-sex relationships can wed and openly gay service members do not threaten national security. Now, depending on who you listen to, President Obama is the first "gay" president of the United States. Is that something to worry about? So, the question this week is, "President Barack Obama, the first "gay" president of the United States. Is it cause for concern?"

A. Yes it is.
B. No it is not.
C. Don't care.
D. Not sure.
