Youth outdoor day to be held

Kids are invited to come out to the annual Youth Outdoor Day at Sharon Bluffs State Park on Saturday, Oct. 3. The event will be held (rain or shine) from 8:30 a.m. until noon. This event is a great way to learn hands-on about the outdoors. The entire day is free and each child will receive instruction in a variety of outdoor skills, a lunch and door prizes (courtesy of local conservation organizations).

Instructors and volunteers will be providing safe, educational experiences for children of all ages in the areas of archery, fishing, shooting .22 rifles and more. The event is supported and sponsored by the local chapters of Pheasants Forever, National Wild Turkey Federation, Southern Iowa Whitetails and the Appanoose County Conservation Board.

The event check-in will begin at 8 a.m. Pre-registrations and more volunteers are appreciated. To sign up, please call (641) 895-1775 or e-mail accbnaturalist@iowatelecom.net.

This week the Iowegian wants readers to think about President Barack Obama. Since Barack Obama was elected president, two significant things have occurred: The military repealed the "Dont' Ask, Don't Tell" policy allowing gays and lesbians to openly serve and just recently he publicly said he supports gay marriage. For some, these actions signal a shift away from God, morality and threatens national security. Others say it's about time people in same-sex relationships can wed and openly gay service members do not threaten national security. Now, depending on who you listen to, President Obama is the first "gay" president of the United States. Is that something to worry about? So, the question this week is, "President Barack Obama, the first "gay" president of the United States. Is it cause for concern?"

A. Yes it is.
B. No it is not.
C. Don't care.
D. Not sure.
