November with all its holiday glory is here. We anticipate the fall weather and the many activities that it will bring.
Today being Nov. 1 we will arrive home from our last three-day trip for the year. Fifty-four seniors went to Red Wing, Minn. and on up to St. Paul, Minn. for a cave tour and a city tour as well as a tour of the cathedral.
Just a little reminder to all that the Hospital Auxiliary will have their annual bazaar at the club on Saturday, Nov. 3. They are a wonderful group with great gift ideas.
Monday, Nov. 5 we will be having homemade chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, broccoli with cheese, strawberry and banana cup and chocolate chip bars.
Tuesday, Nov. 6 will be our first Wii bowling tournament. First heat starts at 10 a.m. followed by one at 10:30 a.m. and another one at 11 a.m. Top winner from the three heats will be immediately following the meal. Today’s meal will be potato chowder with saltine crackers, ham and cheese wrap, ambrosia salad and baked custard.
Wednesday, Nov. 7 we will have our “Care Giver’s” program just before the chicken dinner at 11:30 a.m.
Friday, Nov. 9 we will honor all the veteran’s at the noon meal. Menu for the day is roast beef, mashed potatoes with gravy, spinach, wheat rolls, cinnamon apples and cook’s choice desert. Bingo will be offered for those interested and will start at 10:45 a.m.
Saturday, Nov. 10 from 5-7 p.m. the Betterment or Bust group will host a “Taste of Heritage Dinner” at the 18-80 Club. The menu for the evening will be Swedish meatballs, Italian pasta bake, Croatian pigs-in-the blankets, lettuce salad with breads and deserts of the various nationalities. They will have the meals available for carry-out also if necessary. The ticket price will be $10 per person and tickets are available at the club or from BOB members. An auction of local donated items from businesses and private people in the community will start at 6 p.m. All proceeds will go to the 18-80 Club to purchase and replace all the windows. Show your support and purchase tickets today. We really need to know how many people we are cooking for.
Veteran’s Day will be Monday, Nov. 12 and the site will be closed.
Wednesday, Nov. 14 we will have the Indian Hills Community College RN nursing program in doing a fall carnival. Various games will be played and prizes won on healthy food choices and nutrition facts for senior life styles. This program will start at 10:45 a.m. Today will also be the flu clinic. Appanoose County Public Health Nurses will be in from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. giving flu shots. You must have your Medicare card and insurance card with you.
Thursday, Nov. 15 we will have our birthday party with co-op and bingo at 5 p.m. Bring your covered dish and table service and enjoy the evening.
Friday, Nov. 16 we will be having homemade beef and noodles for lunch. This is one of the senior’s favorite meals. Remember that reservations are best the day ahead however if you need to call that day, do so by 9 a.m.
Tuesday, Nov. 20 will be the second monthly bowling tournament. Call in or sign-up while in the building.
Wednesday, Nov. 21 we will have our Thanksgiving dinner and also have the Chef Charles Program. I will challenge all the seniors to invite a friend or neighbor that they know will be home alone for the holiday to come and have a dinner with us.
Again reservations are required the day before. It is very hard to cook turkeys that day and have everything ready for 150 people.
Thursday, Nov. 22 and the 23 the meal-site will be closed. We wish all our friends a happy holiday.
Monday, Nov. 26 we will have our meeting for the spring trip. This year we will go to Myrtle Beach, Fla. Fliers will be available and the meeting starts at 3 p.m. Call if you are unable to attend.
