Opening concert to feature music of John Denver

CENTERVILLE — Jim brings his wonderful tribute show to the stage at Simon Estes Auditorium on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m. It is brought to Centerville by the Centerville Concert Association as the first performance of the current season.

The untimely death of John Denver in 1997 was a tragedy that was felt the world over. This void in the musical world left John's ardent fans demanding that his music survive. CBS Television responded by producing a made for TV movie: "Take Me Home: the John Denver Story," in which Jim Curry's voice was selected as the voice of John Denver.

Jim Curry's natural voice has to be heard, but he also has to be seen to understand the pleasant coincidence that captures the natural essence of John Denver's persona and music. Curry's heartfelt delivery envelops the audience as multi-platinum hits such as "Rocky Mountain High," "Annie's Song," and "Country Roads" fill the atmosphere. Superimposed with multi-media images of wildlife photos and videos, this is a show that truly fills-up your senses.

"Jim Curry was over there sounding like John Denver” said Pete Huttlinger, guitarist with John Denver. “A couple of times I closed my eyes and went back 15 years."

Admission is by season membership and because this is the opening concert of the 2012-2013 season, memberships will be available at the door for only $35 for adults and $75 for a family. Memberships not only include four concerts in Centerville, but also 19 performances in Ottumwa, Fairfield and Washington at no extra cost. Memberships can also be purchased at Owl Pharmacy and J&K Market on the square in Centerville. Single tickets will be available at the door for $15. Become a member and enjoy live entertainment throughout the coming year.
