Heikes painting to be exhibited

CENTERVILLE — “Snow on the Union Pacific” watercolor painting by artist Marybeth Heikes has recently been selected to be exhibited in the Arts in Harmony 2013 International Juried Art Show in Elk River, Minn.

The exhibition is located in the Sherburne County Government Center on U.S. Highway 10. The show opens Feb. 4 through March 28.

These recent watercolors of train engines are part of a series Heikes begin in 2011. They include different varieties of engines and cabooses.

She has been painting for 30 years and her work has been exhibited widely throughout the United States in numerous international, national and regional exhibitions. She attributes this success to painting daily in her studio and working in a series. Her artwork has been published and featured as cover artist for Sunshine Magazine and Iowa Woman. Her Centerville backalley drawing was published in Rockport Publisher’s “The Best Sketching and Drawing.”

Heikes is  a member of th American Watercolor Society of America. Her works are in many public and private collections.

Currently Heikes’ still life, “Crazy Quilt” is on tour with the Iowa Watercolor’s 2013 Traveling Exhibition. At present the show is on display at the Maquoketa Art Experience in January; and will be at the Hearst Center of the Arts in Cedar Falls, Feb. 1 through March 31; Clear Lakes Art Center in April and May; and Greater Iowa Credit Union in Ames for June and July.

Prints and notecards are available from the artist at her studio or her website.
