Nov. 1

8:39 p.m. An accident was reported on Highway 5. Leona Marie Lewis, 23, of Moravia was driving a 2004 Saturn northbound on Highway 5 when she struck a deer in the roadway causing an estimated $1,000 in damage to her vehicle.

Nov. 6

3:35 a.m. An accident was reported on Highway J3T. Stephanie Ann Beinhart, 41, of Moravia was driving a 1998 Ford westbound on Highway J3T when she swerved to miss a deer, lost control and entered a ditch. Beinhart’s vehicle struck the guide wires of a utility pole and rolled at least once, coming to rest on its wheels in the timber. Beinhart was transported to Mercy Medical Center in an ambulance with non-incapacitating injuries. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $8,000. Damage to the utility pole was estimated at $2,000.

Nov. 7

1:05 a.m. An accident was reported on 405th Street. Matthew Mikel Kaster, 18, of Moravia was driving a 1986 Ford southbound on 405th Street when he attempted to turn westbound at a sharp corner. Kaster lost control of the vehicle, which entered the ditch and rolled over on its top causing an estimated $1,000 in damage.

Nov. 8

6:49 p.m. An accident was reported on Highway 2. Stephanie Terese Allender, 31, of Fort Madison was driving a 2001 Ford eastbound on Highway 2 when she struck a deer in the roadway causing an estimated $1,000 in damage to her vehicle.

7:52 p.m. An accident was reported on Highway 5. Ronald Dean Repp, 68, of Moravia was driving a 1996 Dodge northbound on Highway 5 when he struck a deer in the roadway causing an estimated $2,000 in damage to his vehicle.

Nov. 9

4:51 p.m. An accident was reported on Highway 2. Heidi Melita Keller, 33, of Seymour was driving a 2007 Toyota westbound on Highway 2 when a deer entered the roadway and struck the side of the vehicle behind the driver’s side door. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $3,500.



Wayne County Sheriff’s Office

Nov. 2

Seymour Police arrested Misty Dawn Lancial, 32, of Seymour on a Wayne County warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia. The charge was in connection with an incident at a Seymour residence on Oct. 17. Lancial appeared before the magistrate the following day and was released on her own recognizance.

Nov. 2

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office investigated a property damage accident approximately five miles east of Corydon. A 1995 Chevrolet pickup driven by James Edmund Pollak, 59, of Corydon and pulling a trailer was westbound on Highway 2 when a front tire on the trailer blew out and caused the driver to lose control. The vehicle then spun around, went into the north ditch and rolled onto its top. Damage to Pollak’s truck was estimated at $6,500.

Nov. 3

Corydon Police arrested Darrell Kay Pounds, 18, of Corydon for violation of a no contact order. The charge was filed after Pounds reportedly made contact with the person named in the order on Oct. 31. Pounds was released after posting $300 bond.

So, the question this week is, “Will it stay or will it go?” The United States Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. wants to close three Farm Service Agency offices in southern Iowa, which includes the FSA office in Centerville, and consolidate the operations in order to save money. Tuesday afternoon a meeting was held at Faith United Methodist Church to allow farmers and other producers who use the Centerville FSA office to make comments about the closing to John R. Whitaker, state executive director Iowa FSA. Many questioned if the meeting Tuesday was necessary because the decision had already been made.

A. Yes, because Washington will listen.
B. No, because the decision to close the Appanoose County FSA office has already been made.
