Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church Boyer Scholarship
The “corpus” for the Gene and Vera Boyer Endowed Scholarship Fund was provided through the will of the late Gene Boyer. It was his desire that the money be used to help any person selected by the Board of Trustees of Grace Tabernacle Church to attend a Christian college. It was to this end that the majority of his estate was dedicated.
For the 2012 term, 11 recipients were awarded the scholarships totaling $18,400. The recipients attending Faith Baptist Bible College are Selena Baberl from Ottumwa, majoring in elementary education; Alisha Caudell from Albia, majoring in youth ministry; Anita Montgomery from Bussey, majoring in elementary education; and Sarah VanderVort from Chariton, majoring in sacred music. Those attending Baptist College of Ministry are Allyssa Devon and Ryan Swanson from Corydon, all majoring in Bible. Luke Brundage from Lucerne, Missouri will be attending Southwest Baptist University and majoring in accounting. Emily Gauer from Ankeny is majoring in accounting and attending MidAmerican Nazarene University. Laura Houser from Moulton attends Commonwealth Baptist College and is majoring in office administration.
The Boyer Fund is used to provide students with tuition assistance, books, miscellaneous fees and laptop computers.
