Flame travels from Bethlehem to Centerville

CENTERVILLE — A flame from the lamps that have burned in the Grotto of Bethlehem was collected by Israeli and Palestinian Boy Scouts and began a journey that has spread around the world, including Centerville.

The Peace Light has made its way from the Middle East to Ground Zero in New York, and on to the midwest by passing the flame from one lamp and candle to another.

Drake Avenue Christian Church brought the flame from Des Moines to light their Christ candle on Christmas Eve and has kept it burning. The light will be shared with the whole community at the Peace Prayer Service Sunday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the debate Rep. Larry Sheets talks about at the state capital centered on "accepting Medicaid expansion as defined by the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), or choosing to create an Iowa specific health care program. Those who prefer the Medicaid expansion believe the federal government will fulfill its commitments three years from now. Those opposing explain that the federal government is only capable of that by borrowing the money from the Chinese." So, the question this week is, "Should Iowa accept the federal government's Medicaid expansion or create a health care program specific to the state?"

A. Accept Medicaid expansion.
B. Create health care program.
